PSALM 104.
The birds of the sky nest by the waters;
they sing among the branches.
they sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
How many are your works O Lord! In wisdom you made them all;
The earth is full of your creatures.
All creatures look to you
to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.
29 When you hide your face,
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.
30 When you send your Spirit,
they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.
to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.
29 When you hide your face,
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.
30 When you send your Spirit,
they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.
31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works—
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,
who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
may the LORD rejoice in his works—
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,
who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
as I rejoice in the LORD.
35 But may sinners vanish from the earth
and the wicked be no more.
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
as I rejoice in the LORD.
35 But may sinners vanish from the earth
and the wicked be no more.
Praise the LORD, my soul.
Praise the LORD.[b] Psalm 104.
Yesterday while on my way to my weekly English class, I saw a baby mourning dove struggling to fly away from the potential danger lurking around and perhaps attempt to rejoin the maternal nest. Unfortunately her wings strength was not enough to allow her to stay aloft but for a few seconds. Naturally she tried running away from me a stranger.
Providentially, the means of her rescue were right there: a big cardboard box on the side walk and a nice gentleman who volunteered his help in catching the orphan. Nature was smiling on me, the universe was cooperating. I thought I was helping when I realized that someone was helping me. That little bird, the box and the surrounding circumstances provided a lesson plan for the day. Earlier my printer had a problem and I couldn´t print the lesson I had prepared. So on my way to my class I was thinking of all the ways I could help my student who had requested a lesson on making questions and answers in the past, present and future tenses.
So as it is always the case with the timing of theLord who is never too early or too late , I was right on time since this happened just a few steps from my class location. With a wide grin on my face, I went in the room and announced to my student: what is this? A surprise box for you. Then we proceeded to play the game of guessing what was in the box and discussing the providential intervention. It might not seem like a big thing to some, but a random happening in a cold and cruel universe where dog eats cat and cat eats bird. So why interfere with natural evolution and upset it by human conscious intervention? But for me it was a reminder of how the Lord intervenes on our behalf and provides help right at the proper time. How he shields us from impending danger, how he feeds us, how he takes us in his arms, heals our wounds and helps us grow stronger, sustaining us until we have developed our eagles wings.
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:25-34
