What the Bible says about light and seed

The True Light "In him, (the Lord Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world,…the world didn’t recognize him." John 1:4,9.

The Good Seed and the Weeds “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seeds in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. Matthew 13:24,25.

The Eternal Spring of Joy, Peace and Hope from the Heart of God

Note from the author: This is a Christmas message that I re-publish every year since 2009 because of its timelessness. I hope that it will bless you and that the seeds of love, truth, hope and joy planted in your heart by the Lord will flourish as Aaron´s almond rod of authority and service and nurture the spiritually hungry and thirsty around us.

A Light and Seed Christmas message
Written by Jean-Louis
Re-posted and revised from the original post written in 2009.

As people celebrate Christmas with all its symbols, regardless of what they think the exact time and year of God's divine condescension among us  are, this is what this season represents to me as a spiritual reality.

As I was reflecting upon the incarnation of our Savior Christ Jesus as the supreme gift of our Heavenly Father to mankind, I could not help but think of the limited perspective that we sometimes have of the infinite measure of all of God’s attributes and works in the vast universe He created but also in each of our lives.

The first thing I consider when I ponder the miracle of the supernatural birth of Jesus-Christ is that God chose to manifest His presence in the flesh as a seed of the Holy Spirit in the chosen womb of Mary.

Imagine a little! The creator and sustainer of the endless universe becoming a frail human being Himself subject to the natural law of human birth and physical existence.

What is amazing is that as we follow the course of His birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension and His coming back to take His own faithful ones to reign with Him, the same characteristic stages apply to us who have experienced the second spiritual birth and have passed from death to life, from the kingdom of darkness into His marvelous light.

As the mature tree is essentially contained in the seed just waiting to develop through the different stages of growth, so was the life of the Lord Jesus and so is every one of our lives.

An illustration from the sharing of presents on Christmas day comes to mind. Imagine one of the present being a huge box with someone’s name on it. The person feverishly tears off the paper hoping to discover a big present that will provide a level of satisfaction commensurate to his perceived size. But as the box reveals another smaller box hidden under the packing peanuts, he suspects someone is playing a joke on him as he realizes from the sheer weight of the box.

As he keeps on opening another box, then another one, he finally opens the last tiny box and no matter what the value of the present, it leaves him or her with a sense of unfulfilled expectation and diminished satisfaction. Here in brief is how the acquiring and enjoying of material things which are supposed to fulfill our lives from the cradle to the grave end up being a great disappointment and a snare in the end. Not so with the present from our God, the free gift of salvation available to anyone willing to accept and receive it.

Conversely, imagine that you received the gift of God, salvation by grace in a small box. After receiving and opening the gift, once your life is changed by that spiritual tiny seed, you realize that as you grow, the gift keeps on growing as you learn and mature into eternal everlasting life, the box of our life, so to speak, getting bigger and bigger.

Now considering another angle to giving and sharing presents.

Jesus talking about greed said that life doesn’t consist in the abundance of things. Luke 12:15.And He told the people to not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21.

Jesus is not only talking about treasures, but incorruptible treasures! What is He talking about? He is talking about treasures that have their beginning as an intangible seed beginning here on the earth and continuing in Heaven and/or enjoying all the stages of the growth of the seed in two dimensions simultaneously, in the physical body while at the same time in the invisible realm of the spirit.

He means treasures like the Christian virtues, generosity of spirit, goodness, mercy, humility, faith, wisdom, spiritual knowledge, love, patience, fruits of the Spirit, all intangible, but whose effects are felt when translated into good works and service to our brothers, sisters and fellow man. And of course, included are all the material gifts that he has blessed us with in superabundance to share with those less fortunate than us and to provide the means to advance the Kingdom of God, through preaching of the Gospel through gifts to missions throughout the world. Everything that will become the stones building the foundation of our sphere of influence in the coming Kingdom.

In I Timothy 6: 18, Paul tells Timothy to "Command those who are rich in this present world... to put their hope in God who richly provide us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way, they will lay up for themselves a firm foundation for the coming age so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life". It is obvious that one can build a house or a building only as tall and as large as the dimensions of the foundation supporting it, otherwise the building collapses.

In the Bible we can find several mentions of this manifestation of life as encapsulated in the title of Our Lord who is the Alpha, the beginning and Omega, the end and of course everything in between.

We can find the image of the seed in I Peter 1:23. “For you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is through the living and abiding Word of God.” Isaiah 9:6-7 promise of the coming Messiah follows this development: "for a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest upon His shoulders … there will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace."

To give another perspective to our modern misguided interpretation of authority, let’s look at the test of authority as it applies to governing a people. To resolve the problem of questioning of Aaron the high priest's leadership by the other leaders of Israel, God caused Aaron’s rod, sign of his delegated authority to instantly sprout, put forth buds and bear ripe almonds, Numbers 17:8. And the best of it is that it started from a piece of dead wood, the wood of an almond tree.  Here in a nut shell, we have a transformation (resurrection), new birth and growth, a flowering branch and a mature nut ready for nourishment. Now real and good delegated authority consists in extracting the nut out the shell without crushing the nut. Why would God choose an almond branch out of all the possibilities?

To have a more thorough understanding of the use of the Almond Tree in the Bible, click on the following links: Daily Bible Study: Almonds  and The Lesson of the Almond Tree

As an aside, it is a good lesson in the discipline of children. If we want almond paste mixed with hard bits and pieces of shell mixed together, then we can crush the entire almond with brute force. If we want to raise emotionally and spiritually healthy children we need to apply discipline with the wise and loving, but firm instruction provided by God, breaking the strong will, but not crushing the spirit. Thus the seed will grow into maturity and produce a good fruit or a good nut in this case!
Salvation, knowledge and wisdom are part of the incorruptible treasures that Christ talks about in Matthew. Talking about Christ, Isaiah 33:6 declares:He will be a sure foundation for our times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge: The fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.”

This salvation which starts as a spiritual seed planted by the Holy Spirit Himself in the hearts of men who have received Him on His terms is ever expanding and revealing the loving heart of our Heavenly Father at this time of the year and all year long. "And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us". Romans 5:5

Paul prays for the Ephesians in Ephesians 3:14-17 that: "He would grant you according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with power through His spirit in the inner man so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith and that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God." This is also my prayer for all of us today and for the coming year.

Contrary to the philosophy of this passing and dying world, the present of eternal life in Christ Jesus started as a tiny seed, first the human seed inherited from our natural father and then the Holy Spirit seed  that contained all that is necessary to fulfill the purpose for which our Father and Creator put us on this earth. See I Corinthians 15.  45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. (NIV)

So this Christmas season until the beginning of 2022 and beyond, I invite you to remember with grateful and humble hearts, that the tiniest and most humble manifestation of life, a human seed, a tiny baby in his or her mother's womb is infinitely precious and worthy of protection and nurturing because it was made in God’s image. Psalm 139.

I invite you also to let your hearts and minds expand onto other amazing dimensions of life and consider all the stages of the life of the Savior in His birth, His death, His resurrection, His going back into the glory of Heaven and His coming back to give us glorified bodies, for we have already been resurrected (spiritually)  if we have been born again, starting as a tiny seed wrapped up in a small and fragile package that we all are, as pilgrims on this earth.

This season Jesus offers us hope, joy and peace in a world sadly lacking theses blessings.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13.

Lord God, our loving Heavenly Father, we thank you and praise you for the gift of life present and eternal in Our Lord Jesus-Christ.

DR0GAS SONORAS. IDOSER. SEU FILHO PODE NÃO ESTAR OUVINDO MÚSICA!

Eerie Past and Future Evil :: By Terry James

 Published on:

Words coming from the heart of what many of us believe to be the reviving Roman Empire sounded to be both prologue and prescience. They were spoken by a German representative to the European Union’s parliament.

Christine Andersen, speaking while being interviewed by Steve Bannon of The War Room podcast, gave an eerie analysis of the mask mandates being issued by leaders around the world. She compared what is going on in today’s world to things going on during the time leading to the rise of the Third Reich.

She indicated much of the program involving attempts to gain complete control of the masses today is frighteningly similar to the program employed by the scientists, doctors, epidemiologists and others of the era just before Hitler and his henchmen took over Germany. She explained that their efforts during pre-Nazi Germany were geared toward separating people. They had at the center of their evil postulation that the totally unproven, so-called science showed that inferior races were disease carriers and needed to be separated from the “pure race.”

In the days leading to the holocaust, the Jews and Gypsies were the main targets; then, as the regime garnered power, all others who weren’t considered of the pure, Aryan bloodline were targeted for separation, sequestration in the ghettos and death in the extermination camps.

She said that is what the masking and the vaccines are all about now. They are touting a pseudo-scientific edict that all be mandated, using the masks and the vaccine threats of job loss and worse to separate people. Divide and conquer is the ages-old methodology tyrants always utilize to bring about their regimes of totalitarianism.

Andersen said that the (for the most part) ineffective masking and the untested, not officially approved vaccines in most cases had at the heart of their purpose the divide and conquer modus operandi of all tyrants. The globalist would-be masters had chosen those who refused to adhere to the demands of the elite –the mask and vaccine mandates— to turn the compliant against the resisters. Those who refuse to be vaccinated are declared to be spreaders of COVID. These must be punished by whatsoever methods that will make them comply with the tyrant’s dictates –All for the good of humanity, of course.

We have certainly been witness to the tyrannical methods used to try to turn the masses against those who don’t want to take “the jab,” as it is called. Rather than letting up on their demands, despite the growing number of people refusing the jab, those forces at the top that are almost without exception of the globalist mindset double down.

Much like the Nazis, the one-worlders try to initiate the destruction of prevailing culture from within the family unit. They know they can control more viciously, more completely, if they can take control of children away from parents. This is what the present cancel culture fascists are trying to accomplish through corruption within America’s and the world’s educational systems. It appears at present that those so determined to take the children totally from parental control have overstepped boundaries. The recent elections in Virginia validate this to some extent.

But the battle continues to rage. The evil one who incessantly makes war on humanity and humanity’s Creator continues to stalk about seeking ways to wreak destruction.

The following news item illustrates how Satan’s past wickedness during the rise of the Third Reich is making yet another assault at present. His minions are again using the children to do their destructive work. Again, it is the masks and the vaccines that are at the black heart of this Twenty-first Century attempt to help bring in the Antichrist system of control.

[Excerpt]

OAKLAND — San Francisco will soon require children as young as 5 to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter certain indoor public spaces like restaurants, entertainment venues and sporting events, public health officials said this week.

The local mandate already requires children and adults over the age of 12 to show proof that they are vaccinated before entering those places. Now, city health officials are planning to extend the health order to children ages 5 to 11, the group newly eligible for the shot…

Vaccinations of the younger age group began Wednesday in California, the same day West Coast scientific experts announced they greenlighted the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 5-11 — and a day after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the kid-sized dose. The pediatric vaccine is a third of the adult dose and, like the adult formulation, is given in two doses, 21 days apart.

Officials from the San Francisco Department of Public Health on Wednesday confirmed the plan, saying the city’s current vaccination and masking requirements will be reexamined once the younger children have adequate time to be vaccinated.

I like the way Geoffrey Grider of Nowtheendbegins.com summarizes and frames this past and future evil.

People get mad when you compare the Yellow Star placed on Jews in Nazi Germany in the 1930s with the COVID vaccine mandates being forced on people here in 2021, but in point of fact, the two are surprisingly and alarmingly similar. The Yellow Star created two classes of people, and the vaccine mandate does exactly the same thing. The only question is, have we learned anything from history, or is it getting to repeat itself again? Don’t answer; it’s rhetorical.

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us” (Ecclesiastes 1:9:10).

Dave Hunt - Q&As

Question: [Former] Pope Benedict XVI declared to 23,000 people in St. Peter's Square in Rome, "Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith." Could this explain how pagans throughout history who never heard the gospel could be saved?

Answer: Everyone in every culture and time in history knows from abundant evidence that the universe was created by a God infinite in wisdom, power, and purity (Romans 1). God promises, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13). He will reveal Himself to everyone who truly seeks Him.

Not everyone, however, who claims to seek God, is seeking the true God. Most "seekers" are seeking a false god of their own imagination that will give them what they want. This is a flaw in the "seeker friendly" church growth movement: giving people the "religion" they want instead of the convicting truth they need. The Athenians claimed to be seeking truth; but when Paul on Mars' hill revealed the true God to them, "some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter." Very few believed (Acts 17:32-34).

The truth will never be popular. Many Jews, confronted by biblical proof, knew that Jesus was the Messiah but did not want their false view of the Messiah disturbed. So Jesus said, "And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not" (John 8:45). Benedict XVI did not tell his fawning audience the truth but what they wanted to hear (2 Timothy 4:3,4).
The Pope's words are unbiblical and misleading.

Having a "desire for the transcendent," does not equal seeking the one true God. Nor can seeking "peace and the good of the community" be equated with receiving as personal Savior the One who "made peace through the blood of his cross" (Colossians 1:20). Nor has anyone a "pure conscience": "There is none righteous, no, not one...all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God..." (Romans 3:10, 23).

God has written His law in every conscience and every person knows that he has broken that law many times. When Jesus said to the scribes and Pharisees, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her," the woman's accusers, "convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one..." (John 8:7-9). The Pope and his Church offer false hope to sinners.

Unifying the Epidemiological and Evolutionary Dynamics of Pathogens

https://www.geertvandenbossche.org/post/commenting-paper-unifying-the-epidemiological-and-evolutionary-dynamics-of-pathogens Commenting paper "Unifying the Epidemiological and Evolutionary Dynamics of Pathogens"

If you read this paper (https://science.sciencemag.org/content/303/5656/327.long), you’ll find that back in 2004(!) scientists had already provided key insights into how a pandemic/ epidemic can evolve, including the type of pandemic we’re currently facing. For your convenience, I’ve extracted some key take-home citations from this publication.

Is this how we learn from peer-reviewed publications (?): Advising experts don’t lend credibility to scientific insights unless they’re published in peer-reviewed journals. But once published, they don’t seem to learn from those anyway. So, why would we re-invent the wheel to merely find out that those who’re insisting on peer review prefer to ignore ‘inconvenient’ science, even though published? The lady who kindly sent me the link is neither an expert in vaccinology, nor immunology nor virology.

So, if she thought this paper to be relevant to the current pandemic, why don’t advising experts think likewise? Given the impact of the derailed pandemic on human lives and health, it’s time we teach the broader public because this is truly about their lives and health. That’s why we, independent scientists, first and foremost have a moral obligation to educate them on these matters. Peers pick it up anyway.

But the other way around, the public is simply left with some mainstream narratives, light years away from the true science. Even though they may not understand the details of the science, the public may at least wonder why the solution to this complex problem is taught (not thought!) to be as simple as to intensify the mass vax campaigns.

Turkey’s Chase for the ‘Red Apple - Essay

Over the last five years, Turkish President Erdoğan and his allies have repeatedly used the image of the Red Apple (Kızıl Elma) as a symbol of their ambitions for Turkey

Turkey’s Chase for the ‘Red Apple’

Turkic archers on horseback gallop as they unleash their arrows, Ottoman infantry rush to repel an attack in World War I, and modern Turkey’s army shows off its prowess. “To the Red Apple!” declaims President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a voiceover.

The aim of this striking video merging different eras is clear — to claim continuity throughout 1,000 years of Turkish history, from the exploits of the Turkic tribes who began to win control of Anatolia a millennium ago, to the young Ottoman troops who resisted an Allied invasion in 1915 at the Battle of Gallipoli, to the exploits of modern Turkey under the rule of Erdoğan himself.

But why the reference to a single piece of colored fruit?

Over the last five years, Erdoğan and his allies have repeatedly used the image of the Red Apple (Kızıl Elma) as a symbol of their present and future ambitions for a fast-developing, economically independent Yeni Türkiye (new Turkey).

Above all, the Red Apple is a symbol of a vision and quest for modern Turkey — to wield influence and hegemony well beyond its borders into Muslim-majority lands formerly ruled by the Ottomans in the Balkans, Middle East, and the Caucasus.

“When asked where they were going, they said they were ‘going to the Red Apple,’” Erdoğan said of Turkish troops who in early 2018 took part in one of three major operations Ankara has launched inside Syria in the last few years. “This is the thing. Yes, we have our Red Apple.”

A Spiritual Encounter with a Muslim Sufi – Part 2

A Spiritual Encounter with a Muslim Sufi – Part 2

Written and published by Jean-Louis Mondon.

On the way home from the potluck, I was praising the Lord and grateful for His giving me the opportunity of witnessing that afternoon to a group of people of diverse backgrounds. In our Translator´s chapter, there were a couple of retired American missionaries to Brazil who had made their home in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The Lady had translated from English to Portuguese a Hymnal that is still in use in some Brazilian churches. We had a great time sharing stories together.

At the time, I didn´t even know that the Lord had planned for me to move to Brazil, which I did in 2009. His ways and his timing are perfect. Only the Lord could arrange these events. Reminiscing on the odds of me meeting an Algerian Muslim immigrant, a guest of some friends of the Chapter´s coordinator was undoubtedly in the Lord´s will and purpose and I wanted to be prepared prayerfully and emotionally to meet him and make him feel welcome in a Christian home. People from North Africa and the Middle East are very hospitable. I remembered my first months and years as an immigrant and foreign student, the kind and generous display of hospitality from Christians who opened their homes to me on week-ends and times of fellowship at their church and sharing our different cultures around the dinner table.

Here was an opportunity to do the same, although I felt a little apprehensive and emotional, given the past history of our common homeland divided by war, terrorism and unspeakable acts of barbarism perpetrated by both sides that would be replayed in some fashion at least in our mind, inside the safety and comfort of my home, 40 years later. But knowing that it´s was God´s leading, I felt confident that He would guide and protect us all the way.

Wanting to be ready to receive my new friend, I made sure that all the special ingredients on my grocery list were all purchased so I could concentrate on setting up a nice ambiance. About 2 weeks later I called him and asked him when he would be coming up to meet us. We set a date and the day arrived.

The dinner was made up of traditional dishes from our native country and we had a lively conversation punctuated by a few melancholy moments when I was drawn back to the happy times of my childhood between the end of WWII and the beginning of the Civil War.

After dinner, we retired to the living room to sip on a cup of strong Turkish coffee. Now the interesting part started. I got out a huge map of Algeria on the floor and we shared our past life, growing up in Algeria. He grew up around the capital, Algiers the main port city in Algeria, blessed with a very picturesque, colorful blend of early 19th and 20th century European and traditional Arab-Andalusian architecture and a rich multicultural heritage.

I grew up 20 years earlier than he did in the high rugged region of the Atlas Mountains. We lived in the European part of town, although I had to go through the Jewish and Arab sections partitioned by invisible but very real demarcation lines. I attended public and private schools where I had some contact with Algerian indigenous students. But on the whole, our way of life and cultures were very different. My attitude about them was ambivalent. I got along well with my Jewish friends who were neighbors and sons of doctors, shopkeepers and businessmen. In this pluralistic environment, shaped by past centuries of conquests and religious wars, I was influenced and indoctrinated by racist and hard right ideology.

I learned a hard lesson in respecting other people no matter who or what they were, regardless of their ethnicity, social status or religion. My mother was a very devout and militant Catholic, an elementary school teacher for the indigenous children in the Arab quarter and a nurse. One day, going back home, I must have been around 11 years old, we saw an Arab Algerian spitting on the ground. I looked at my mother and told her in a condescending, demeaning tone: “Mom, look at the dirty Arab!" To which my mother instantly replied by a backhand smack on my cheek, while adding: “Don´t you ever say that again about people”.

Almost everybody around me was very nationalistic, even more patriotic than the French continental population. And it even got worse when the war started. As the saying went, we, Algerian Catholics, because of our roots grown in the fertile ground of the early primitive church, were even more catholic than the Pope! One had to choose sides in order to survive in the midst of religious, political and social chaos. It seemed that everybody was a militant for a cause that was defended with stones, guns, and bombs.

Houari was a nice and kind cultured gentleman with an interesting background and ancestral lineage from high ranking officials of the Ottoman Empire. “The regency of Algiers[a] (in Arabic: Al Jazâ'ir),[b] was a vassal state of the Ottoman Empire in North Africa lasting from 1515 to 1830, when it was conquered by the French. (Wikipedia) One of his great-grandfather was Governor of the province of Algiers. He told me that his grandfather showed him some correspondence from the Ottoman Sultan or Caliph kept in a vacuum container to preserve the camel skin parchment. He learned the very difficult craft of mother of pearl inlaid furniture apprenticing with his grandfather who passed on to him some secret cutting techniques that he invented.

Life for the Algerian people became very hard socially, politically and economically after the 1962 official declaration of Independence. Horrible massacres of the population just preceded and followed the precipitous exodus of the French and Algerian people loyal to the French who had enrolled and fought with us in the 2 World Wars. They had to leave everything behind and board army helicopters to flee the country under threat of certain death by the jubilant crowds and frenetic revengeful gangs of soldiers and murderous young and older adults.

Houari, then in his early twenties shared that he had a hard time making ends meet in the now plumetting economy steered by Hungarian and Cuban collective models. He and his brothers tried their hand at getting several food businesses off the ground. He knew several young men who, unemployed and idle were recruited by the Afghan Mujaheddin to fight against the Russian invaders.

After the Russian´s defeat, those young battle-hardened warriors came back to a country that had not improved, but that was divided between the socialist government in power and the Islamist fanatics. The latter wanted to get back to the Koran and Sharia law and massacred anybody opposed to their extreme religious agenda whereas the French government had adopted a liberal official stance toward the indigenous population, given the fact that we were a minority of 1 to 10 in the country that they had invaded.

These young soldiers experienced in the tactics of guerilla warfare were left with 3 ways of making a living. They had money, drugs and weapons. When the money ran out, they would sell drugs and when the drugs and money ran out, they would use their weapons to extort and kill anybody that stood in their way or refuse to abandon the western way of life and the freedom and benefits that they has experienced under the French 3 rd. Republic colonial expansion.

Distressed and disillusioned by the extreme dogmas advocating armed conflicts in his religion, Houari gradually turned to the softer, inner type of Muslim mysticism and gradually changed his attitude and left behind his anger and frustration at seeing his country growing increasingly violent, unstable, deeply divided and unmanageable.

He started changing his life style and joined a fencing club. After some years of training, he was selected to represent Algeria at international competitions and was awarded a Gold Medal in 2 consecutive games. (I don´t remember if it was a World Olympic games or a Pan-Arab Olympic games).

His sister immigrated to the US and settled in Greenville, SC. Later on Houari followed his sister, got a permanent visa and was sponsored by the same family that has previously received his sister.

After we had exchanged all this interesting information, that obviously would set us up as potential irreconcilable enemies, we resume our initial conversation started at the potluck to find how it was possible for us to sit down together at a table and truly enjoy each other´s company. Knowing that this was the first time we had met without a crowd of strangers around us, I was mostly listening to his fascinating stories, hoping that the Lord would orchestrate some future meetings so we could develop a friendship since we were living about one hour away from each other.

Given the circumstances described above, one odd thing I pointed out to him must have caught his attention and caused some reflection on his part when I asked him about a hypothetical situation: Houari, I said: “What would have happened when I visited my brother in August 1968, if we had met on a crowded avenue in Algiers, when the Algerians went out in the streets celebrating the publication of Che Guevara´s biography 1st French edition. Here I was with my brother, looking very much French in the middle of a jubilant crowd celebrating their independence victory 8 years earlier. What would have been our respective reaction if we were armed?”

After a pause, I added; “But look at us now, 32 years later, sitting on the floor in my living room sharing our lives with each other, because something deep happened to us that led us to change the way we used to characterize and stereotype other people without having previously made an effort to get to know them personally.

Later on, as we parted, I invited him to come back for a visit of our beautiful mountain town. He did a few weeks later. He shared that he was in the process of setting up a fencing academy and that he was happy with the progress he had made since his arrival.

Then, came the horrific fateful day of 911, a dark day of infamy that I will remember forever. Everything changed. Even our small Southern town with a good number of Mexican nationals and a few Mideastern immigrants experienced incidents of harassment and outright violence against anybody with a darker skin in an irrational retaliation against innocent people. I was even hiding the fact that I was born in Algeria when I told people I was French. At the time, I was working as a locksmith servicing remote back hills of several counties populated by territorial, quick tempered local mountain folks with whom I already had some pretty scary encounters. But by the grace of God…!

I wrote an email to Houari asking him about the situation in Greenville and if he had experienced dangerous situation because he was a Muslim. I told him of my concern and that I was praying for him, his safety and his continuing business success. I never got an answer. I don´t know what happened to him after that.

I found out through the internet about his Academy, but I lost track of him, I have tried to locate him several times, unsuccessfully.

I reminded myself that as a sower, I planted the seed and that in time, the Lord has sent or will send someone else to water and provide everything needed for Houari to open his heart, receive the Lord and experience the New Birth and a new abundant life. We have to do the part he assigned to us and leave the results to Him.

Parable of the Seed
And He was saying, “The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows—how, he himself does not know. “The soil produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head. “But when the crop permits, he immediately puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
Mark 4:26-29

I understand the difficulty of witnessing to Muslims as westerners when all we really know about them is what we learn in history books or on Internet sites. You will probably get more accurate knowledge hearing the stories from missionaries or US soldiers who have been on tours of duties in the Middle East or Afghanistan and have rubbed shoulders with the locals.

This is the story of my encounter with a Algerian Muslim, legal immigrant I met in the mountains of North Carolina.

I know that the Lord arranged it. It happened a few months after 911. At the time, I was a member of the Western NC Chapter of Translators and Interpreters. The occasion was a pot luck dinner at the countryside property of the coordinator of the chapter. I arrived a little late and before I passed the entrance gate, I asked the Lord to please help me to witness to somebody. I never expected that He would give me the boldness to witness to a crowd of unbelievers. He is always full of surprises; after all He is the One who directs our steps, opens our mouth and helps us with our hesitations, doubts and inadequacies.

As I walked toward the open grassy space and greeted all my colleagues and some guests sitting down in a long row, I noticed somebody that looked like an Arab. So instead of going on to the end of the line, I just grabbed a chair and sat right in front of him. I introduced myself and he did too. I recognized his accent and he did mine. After a few salutations in French, we switched to English as a courtesy to the other guests. So I asked him who he was and what he did so far away from his country. His name was Houari and he came on a lottery visa to rejoin his sister who had already immigrated, sponsored by a couple from South Carolina. In fact the couple was sitting next to him and heard every part of our conversation.

After a while, several people attracted by our exchange, I guess tired of the usual pleasantries that we share in such happy gatherings, usually about our common work, started gathering around us and listened attentively to what turned out to be quite interesting.

Being a teacher by vocation, I am good at asking questions. I soon found out that he was a second time Olympic Algerian champion in fencing broad sword discipline. I thought to myself, I better find out what kind of Muslim he is before I start a conversation on our different religions so I don´t run the risk of offending Allah and his prophet and bear the bloody consequences of my foolishness on the green lawn right in front of everybody.

So pretending that I was inquiring about the nature and beliefs of Islam, we both started talking casually in a way that felt comfortable sharing our respective faiths. After a while, I asked him what kind of feint he used to beat his opponents. He answered: “just few second before he attacks, I perceive by observing him where and when his move is going to be and I strike first.” So I thought to myself, he is a Sufi, muslim believer of the non-violent kind.

By that time, while relieved that we could pursue our pleasant exchange, the couple next to him was fretting in their seats and getting obviously upset by the content of our conversation whereas all the other guests found it interesting enough to stick around and listen.

Having kept quiet and listening until now the woman and the man started expressing their views. They were Episcopalian and felt uncomfortable that I could talk about a touchy and controversial subject that is best kept within the confines of the church walls during Sunday mass.

They tried to shut me up by saying: “We came to this picnic to entertain our guest and this is not the moment to talk about religious and personal subjects. Besides, we worship the same God by a different name and he is coming to church with us on Sunday and pretty soon he will become converted to our religion.” Wow!

So I retorted, “why should we stop, he seems to enjoy our conversation and you don´t seem to want to learn anything about his religion. He has told us that his god has no son, that Ishmael is the one who received the promise of Isaac, and that Jesus didnt die on the cross for anybody, that there is no resurrection since He didn´t die for anybody´s sins. Why do you disrespect him when he said plainly that his religion is different than yours?”

I felt like I was experiencing a Twilight Zone episode and that a strange thing was happening when I had to witness to the couple about biblical truths in the Scriptures and rebuked them in front of unbelievers. My colleagues all knew that I was a Christian.

Then, I got up and went to the buffet table. Houari got up to and followed me and we continued our conversation. I told him: “you are a Sufi, aren´t you?”

Surprised, he asked: “How do you know?”

“Because of the way you approached your opponent in fencing tournaments and win. You meditate, don´t you?” I replied.

I then shared with him that I had meditated and was initiated in Kriya Yoga meditation and that I was pursuing several other spiritual paths, following the teachings and practices of New Age esoteric and occult disciplines for 14 years before I was rescued by the Lord Jesus.

Then I told him, when you meditate and entered into a blissful state when everything inside of you and around is peace and harmony and oneness, that feels wonderful, but that´s only one side of the whole equation. What do you do when you have a bad trip and you encounter demons on the way to God consciousness, then what?

He replied: My master says: those bad experiences are normal on the path, they are given you to test your resolve to press on toward the ultimate goal and go through and conquer your fear”.

I replied: “That´s not true. Fear is natural defense mechanism and if you ignore it and proceed, you will encounter more powerful demons until you are a slave to the chief demon, and here I used the Arabic word “Shaytan” or Satan that he would understand. And it is impossible to come out of his grips once you are on his territory.

The only one that can deliver you and keep you out of bondage to these evil spirits is the Lord Jesus Christ which is exactly what happened to me when I cried out to Him for deliverance from evil spirits that tormented me all these years when I was deeply involved in occult practices.

We continued chatting for a while until it was time to go. I took his phone number and invited him to meet again if he wanted to.

Part II will be about our meeting together at my home for a dinner of Algerian food that I prepared for our guest.

Enquanto eu ainda estava sonhando

Contemplando o amanhecer rosado,

Meu Pai, o jardineiro mestre

Me tirando do meu sono

Me convidou a mergulhar além

Da soleira as profundezas

Com uma palavra de sua boca

E com brilho em seus olhos

Venha comigo  ao meu jardim.

Vamos passear pelas sendas

Onde a brisa fresca e suave,

Exala sua fragrância sutil e calma

Espalhando a luz resplandecente

Dispersa em tons diáfanos.

Juntos em doce comunhão

Nos alegraremos caminhando

Nesta terra, sua casa temporária

Minha boa e bela criação.

Eis a flor mais requintada

Que cresce voltada para o sol

De um amor incomparável

Em Jesus Cristo, meu filho amado.

O calor suave e calmante dos raios

Emanando de seus olhos,

Cheios de misericórdia e compaixão

Chama os humildes e contritos de coração,

Mesmo os mais quebrantados:

“Venha e descanse em mim”

A frágil beleza de sua essência

Nunca se desvanece no esquecimento

Mas morrendo para si mesma renascerá

Em frutos bons e duradouros,

Pois, o manancial da água da vida

Que a alimenta jamais secará.

DORES DO PARTO E NOSSO GLORIOSO REGRESSO AO NOSSO LAR -- Jean-Louis Mondon

Gravidez e parto, natural e espiritual

Atos 3:22 declara: “'Moisés disse: “O SENHOR DEUS LEVANTARÁ PARA VOCÊS UM PROFETA COMO EU DE SEUS IRMÃOS; A ELE VOCÊ DEVE DAR ATENÇÃO a tudo o que Ele te diz.”

Então, o comando: “VENHA, SIGA-ME” e eu te mostrarei o caminho para o Pai.

Maranatha, Mesmo assim, Senhor Jesus, Amem!
