What the Bible says about light and seed
The True Light "In him, (the Lord Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world,…the world didn’t recognize him." John 1:4,9.
The Good Seed and the Weeds “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seeds in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” Matthew 13:24,25.
The Good Seed and the Weeds “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seeds in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” Matthew 13:24,25.

What is so wise about a serpent?
Reposted from servehiminthewaiting.com
To be harmless as doves. Harmless means honest, sincere, without guile. Stick with truth, and don’t get drawn into debate. Soar above the fray.
Be Sober: Serious, sedate, temperate and subdued, not excessively emotional, not extreme, or fanciful nor fearful. Keep your “spiritual wits” about you.
Be vigilant: keep careful watch for potential danger and difficulty, watchful, awake, alert.
Walk circumspect: circum (around you) spect (mindful, thoughtful, attentive). Don’t get so deep into anything to the exclusion of attentiveness to the bigger picture and what is going on around you. Don’t let down your guard.
Those perilous times are upon us. It is not just what we see happening on our streets, and in the news. There is an intentional stirring up of conflict and “precision strikes” being made upon our specific individual vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
It doesn’t get easier from here. Hold on for dear life, trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in everything. If you are a stay-at-home Mom, acknowledge Him in your mothering, your “mundane” tasks of laundry, dishes, refereeing, shuttling. If you are a businessman, acknowledge Him in your business. If you are disabled, acknowledge Him in what He has allowed because He is wise and has a purpose in it. If you are struggling and feel powerless, know that He allows it for the purpose of helping you rely on Him. We don’t do it on our own, we pretty much have to be forced a lot of the time.
If you are prone to depression, be proactive in counter-acting negative thoughts and replacing them with scripture and thankfulness. If you are sick and the medical bills are piling up, you can still be thankful if you have insurance that pays some of it, or for friends who care, or for the fact you are not as sick as you could have been.
If you are a pastor discouraged in your ministry, you can still rejoice in your own salvation and the knowledge that our redemption is near.
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness ( both refer to sexual promiscuity) not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.
This weekend in our family, there was a lot of strife, contention, emotion, a lot of misunderstanding. Satan is really good at that, but we have to be mindful of the fact he is always right there ready to exploit every emotion and sore spot and weakness. We are feeling the evil move in, making it personal. We are seeing the evil day come to hand. It is going to be important to call on the Lord at all times and in all things, and when we let our flesh get the better of us, to repent right away, and not let anything fester. If we hurt or offend, we need to own up and apologize, make restitution where possible.
I imagine you have noticed the same thing in your own household, or work environment, or church, even. We should not be surprised and we can’t afford to fall for it. Our battle is not with flesh and blood. Yet we very often take it out on flesh and blood, causing injury and offense.
It occurred to me that this time as we are at the final moments, is a lot like when a woman goes through pregnancy, which for many of us, is pretty miserable for nine months, and yet when the term is up, you then have to “walk through fire” of labor and delivery to be done with it. There is no other exit. Can’t turn around, can’t take a detour or easier option. Many women have been known to say “I can’t do it” when the absolute fact is that she will, she must and therefore, she can, she just doesn’t “feel” like she can. It can be grueling and we have to accept that and prepare as best we can, and place our trust in what we have learned and done, and in the people alongside us who are there to help us get through it. Don’t trust your feelings. Don’t trust your doubts. Don’t trust even necessarily your own eyes. This is peak deception time.
I personally have many moments when I feel like I can’t face or endure something to get to the other side of this, to redemption, to release. But now is not a time for giving up. See it through, faithful to the end, not perfect, not sinless, but repentant, humble, determined, leaning on the Lord, pressing into Him, knowing He is the stronger one in the yoke, and will not let us stumble and fall, but will enable us to go on as long as we are willing and as long as we desire to be obedient and to serve Him in whatever our situation or circumstances are.
It is like that time on the airplane when there is an emergency situation, and we are supposed to help the children and elderly and otherwise helpless, but we only can do that if we put on our own oxygen mask first. There comes a time when it is the real deal, that the flight attendants must necessarily cease to assist others and strap themselves in.
It is not selfishness, it is a matter of navigating the turbulence we are now firmly in the midst of. It is a time to keep short accounts and encourage others. It’s the last hour of the night shift when many are just waking up, while some of us have “labored through the night”.
Those are our reinforcements, no our replacements. All leave cancelled for the foreseeable future!
Remain vigilant with intense, unfaltering, wary watchfulness with an attitude of submission to the Holy Spirit to avoid unnecessary frictions, distractions, and sins.
Pray, pray pray. If you don’t have a huge repertoire of scripture memorized, write them on cards and plaster them all through your house or work station, or carry in your pocket and refer to them often.
That old serpent, Satan, is a clever one. He outsmarts us a lot of the time. But when he comes around accusing, harassing, stirring up trouble, we can remind him of Revelation 20, verses 2-3 and 10.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.“And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”This is the hard part. But it will all be over soon.

DECEPTION Pastor, “Power, Prestige, and Wealth are all Yours if you just Tell Them What They Want to Hear”
Reposted from doctorwoodhead.com
This is perhaps the most insidious of all the heretical deceptions to come upon biblical Christianity. It is characterized by catering to the desires of the people. Instead of being inculcated with God’s Word and having our personal world view and behavior be patterned after God’s Word, the New Evangelicalism gives the people what they want. One NT passage clearly predicts this reversal of worship of God to worshiping man.
Romans 1:25
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
The idea with this new wave of apostasy is to soft-sell the Bible and salvation. It is not attempting to save anybody from the fires of Hell but from an aimless and meaningless life here on earth. Our experiences and quality of life here are more important than the total service to God and the blessed assurance that He will soon come to lift us out of this sinful decaying world. Salvation is given lip service and evangelism with real confrontation is thought to be too divisive. This apostasy does not want to upset anybody. There is never any mention of Hell and the outcome of an unsaved life. They may say that they believe strongly but, their actions differ sharply from what they say.
Usually their Bible teaching is characterized by an over emphasis on application. This of course is the middle of the road approach. They avoid doctrine as too divisive.
Paul warned us that the end times would be characterized as a departure from sound doctrine and a departure from the truth.
II Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
With the divisiveness they believe that they will lose members of their congregation and therefore funds. Or they are concerned with money and man-made approaches to self-help. A total dependence on God for their resources is abandoned for “sound business” practices or “fundamental marketing techniques.” Total reliance on God by elders through prayer and patience is exchanged for parliamentary procedure and schemes for man made self-advancement and career goals. The pastor is considered as a CEO, not the teacher of God’s Word. Mission statements and strategic plans are formulated to accommodate personal plans. The Bible is subordinated to man’s desires.
The thought of prophecy is anathema to the New Evangelical for they say it causes division. This division of course is between those non-literal Bible expositors and the literal Biblical expositors. Some have characterized the New Evangelical as being seduced by the world spirit of this present age.
You can see it in the leaders who are popularized. Usually they have a high degree of prominence in the government or sports and their testimonies are sought after for paid speaking engagements and book endorsements.
You will never see a Sunday school teacher or poor inner city pastor held up by them as pillars of the faith. Christ went to the lowest members of society to bring the truth to the world. He did not go to the popular and prominent.
This is a spirit of disobedience and a mood of compromise. It is a rejection of many of the negative aspects of New Testament Christianity. It is an attitude of positivism. They would rather be diplomats not fighters, positive rather than militant, infiltrators rather than separatists. They would not be restricted by a separationist mentality. The New Evangelical would rather pursue dialog, intellectualism, and appeasement than Biblical Militantism. Psychology is fast becoming their guide.
The use of psychology is rapidly becoming the norm in Christian Schools and churches.
Our culture has become deeply and extensively psychological. The weakness and carnality of the church in recent decades has allowed this psychological mind-set of the world to flow into the church. This process has brought about a redefining of many foundational matters of the Christian faith. We used to correctly understand that man’s problem was sin and God’s remedy was His saving and transforming grace (Romans 5:12, 17). Now, the trouble is the disorder of codependency, and the solution is group therapy. Formerly, we understood that man tended to stray from God to follow his own self-willed path (Isaiah 53:6), and that he needed to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Christ (Luke 9:23). Now, we think that man must esteem himself, affirm himself, and actualize himself. All of this new thinking is coming from psychological theory, which is primarily a philosophy of life. We are strongly warned in the word of the Lord not to be guided by the philosophy of the world.
Colossians 2:8
“Beware lest anyone take you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ”
Beware of the leaven of the new-evangelicals.

The church is rapidly accepting occult, channeled books as divinely inspired
Reblogged from: the-end-time.blogspot.com
:Here is a definition of automatic writing, or spirit writing from the Free Dictionary,
You would be surprised at how many people have produced written works of novel, poetry, plays and even music by this occult process. It is an old, old practice. I suppose because fascination with the "other side" by pagans is also a constant throughout time. It is a fascination for the Christian, too, but we are fortunate to have THE authoritative and perfect, inerrant, infallible bible. It is God's revelation of Himself to us, and it in its entirety is profitable for reproof, correction, training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16).
For those without a relationship with God and an inability to understand the bible, they still long for eternity. So they seek it anyway, but unknowingly through satan.
Hildegarde of Bingen was a Catholic mystic. (1098 – 1179). Her visions
became important content for the Catholic Church and eventually were
accepted as theological works. In one vision she wrote of her process,
"And it came to pass ... when I was 42 years and 7 months old, that the
heavens were opened and a blinding light of exceptional brilliance flowed through my entire brain. And so it kindled my whole heart and breast like a flame, not burning but warming... and suddenly I understood of the meaning of expositions of the books..."
You hear the automatic writers use the word "suddenly" quite often.
William Butler Yeats is an infamous occultist, participating in automatic writing for a decade, having been introduced to it by his wife Georgie. His famous poem Second Coming (Slouching Toward Bethlehem) was written in 1919. During the first years of his marriage, he and his wife Georgie experimented with automatic writing, and he and George contacted and were contacted by many spirits and guides they called "Instructors". The pair also experienced flashing lights, cracking sounds and breaths of warm air as signals of the entity's presence.
Automatic writer Rudyard Kipling said circa 1915, "My Daemon was with me in the Jungle Books, Kim, and both Puck books and good care I took to walk delicately, lest he should withdraw. I know that he did not because when those books were finished they said so themselves... When your Daemon is in charge, do not try to think consciously. Drift, wait and obey."
The main difference between holy inspiration of the bible writers, and occult practice of automatic writing, is that in the former, hard thinking was required. Study, thought, and knowledge was demanded of the men and is still demanded of all Christians today. In Galatians 6:11, Paul wrote,
See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.
Pulpit Commentary says,
93 verses about Thoughts And The Mind
Contemplative prayer is to automatic writing as marijuana is to crack. It is the beginning of a practice that, seemingly benign or innocent, will drag you down to the depths of Sheol and ultimately to death. In contemplative prayer and automatic writing, the directive is the opposite. Rather than engage the mind with the text of the bible, we are told to "Drift, Wait, and Obey." Clear your mind. Be still. Be quiet. GotQuestions describes the process,
Leaving Catholic Hildegard of Bingen in the 1100s behind, we now shoot up to the 1820s. Joseph Smith received the Book of Mormon from an alleged holy angel named Moroni. In his 2002 book, "Automaticity and the Dictation of the Book of Mormon", Scot C. Dunn wrote,
There is a whole slew of writers throughout the 1900s who channeled their books. You would be surprised at how many. The famous writer, Richard Bach who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull got his book from channeling an entity through the practice of automatic writing. Bach was influenced by by occultist Jane Roberts,
"Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. 44"Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came'; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. 45"Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation." (Matthew 12:43-45)
Like Hildegarde heard an inner voice, so did Bach. Richard Bach was on a walk one day when he heard an inner voice declare, "Johnathan Livingston Seagull." There was more. He went home and began writing immediately, furiously, trying to keep up with the flow of words that were coming spontaneously to mind." He said his book came in one sitting.
In 1923, AJ Russell "authored a book called "For Sinners Only." One day, he was gardening. He wrote,
The two ladies did so and God Calling was the result. God Calling is yet another book received by an unknown entity from the other side via automatic writing. The people being used for this channeling were unknown, only calling themselves Two Listeners, because they wish to remain anonymous. All we know is that they are women, one Catholic and one Anglican. They sent their manuscript to Russell and so impressed, he published it.
The For Sinners Only book caused the Two Listeners to write God Calling and God Calling caused Sarah Young to do some automatic writing of her own, and Jesus Calling was the result.
Neale Donald Walsch wrote a trilogy called Conversations with God. In this interview with Walsch, we learn that it is also is a book born from hell through automatic writing.
Beth Moore wrote When Ungodly People Do Ungodly Things, or rather, God wrote it for her. Moore was only the channel for it. Moore describes her process-Moore says-
In conscious writing it is the writer who moves the pencil; in automatic writing it is the pencil that moves the writer. Source
“When the message for this book was complete (in His estimation — not mine!), [just like Kipling's Daemon said, too] God compelled me to ink it on paper with a force of the Holy Spirit unparalleled in my experience. He whisked me to the mountains of Wyoming where I entered solitary confinement with Him, and in only a few short weeks, I wrote the last line.”
Whisked her? Like He did to Philip? "And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing." (Acts 8:39). Moore continues,
We have learned that any heathen in any era can be used for automatic writing. We know that the bible says,
No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)
Automatic writing is one way the unholy angels masquerade as righteous, delivering the age-old satanic promise of wisdom from beyond.
For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. (Genesis 3:5-6).
It goes without saying that the work-product received always, ALWAYS is at contradiction to one or more doctrines of the bible. Invariably. Including Beth Moore's books. These so-called godly books are from satan, who is the father of lies. The only book from the other side worth trusting is the bible. Period.
Brethren, gain your wisdom from the perfect Word. If you read Jesus Calling, or Beth Moore's ungodly channeled books, or The Shack, or any of these supposedly divinely delivered books and writings, then aren't you, too, eating the fruit of the tree from which you were commanded not to? Do not ingest poisonous fruit from a subtle schemer such as satan. Stay in the pure word, a lovely and wonderful holy book given to us by our precious Jesus. It is good fruit from the Firstfruit of all. (1 Corinthians 15:23)
CONCLUSION-
1. Automatic writing is an occult activity,
2. Automatic writing is an occult activity encroaching into the true church,
3. Automatic writing is an occult activity rapidly being accepted by the true church,
4. Now you know the buzz words regarding automatic writing,
5. Do not purchase, read, or accept automatic writers, including Sarah Young, Beth Moore, and William P. Young, Marianne Williamson, etc.,
6. Do not do automatic writing yourself.

Writing performed without conscious thought or deliberation, typically by means of spontaneous free association or as a medium for spirits or psychic forces.Automatic writing is the process, or product, of writing material that does not come from the conscious thoughts of the writer. It differs from inspired scripture in that in inspired scripture,
The process of inspiration was not a mechanical dictation where the apostles heard a voice and wrote down what they heard. Nor does it mean that they went into some sort of a trance and God wrote through them without their knowledge. Instead, the writers were free to write what they wanted as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In fact, the writings reflect the personality and style of the various writers. Yet, the personality and style of the writers did not degrade the quality or authority of the biblical writing.(source)Automatic writing is Ouija Board with a pen. Some of the more remarkable things about automatic writing is that the people through which these written products emerge describe a very similar experience. No matter which millennia or decade they participate in their writings, they describe similar sensations, similar feelings, and the same process. Where I quote their descriptions of their own process, I put in bold type the similar phrases they use to describe it.
You would be surprised at how many people have produced written works of novel, poetry, plays and even music by this occult process. It is an old, old practice.
Pulpit Commentary says,
Through some cause or other, we know not what the cause was, writing with his own hand was not a welcome employment to him; so far unwelcome that he generally devolved the actual penning of his letters upon an amanuensis, merely authenticating each letter as his own by a postscript added in his own hand (see 2 Thessalonians 3. fin.). Perhaps Philemon forms the only' exception (see ver. 19), apart from this letter to the Galatians. We may, therefore, imagine the apostle as painfully and laboriously penning one portion after another of the Epistle; often pausing weariedly in the work as he came to the end of each γράμμα, that is, to the end of each section of his argument, each seeming to him a long and toilsome effort. And now at last he exclaims," Look, what long, laborious performances of handwriting I have achieved in writing to you! And from that learn how deeply I am concerned on your behalf, and how grave your present spiritual peril appears to me to be!" Ordinarily it was only a brief "piece of writing" that he wrote with his own hand; here, long pieces, added one after another with painful effort. The bible writers prayed, and then used their minds to produce what the Spirit wanted them to produce. Today, preachers, writers, commenters, seminary students, bloggers, and theologians do the same. (Though their words are not inspired). Their minds are completely engaged, because the Spirit transforms the mind. How many times we are urged to think, study, wrestle, renew your mind, do not be double minded but single-minded, etc. See the verses here that speak to the thoughts and mind of a Christian:
93 verses about Thoughts And The Mind
Contemplative prayer is to automatic writing as marijuana is to crack. It is the beginning of a practice that, seemingly benign or innocent, will drag you down to the depths of Sheol and ultimately to death. In contemplative prayer and automatic writing, the directive is the opposite. Rather than engage the mind with the text of the bible, we are told to "Drift, Wait, and Obey." Clear your mind. Be still. Be quiet. GotQuestions describes the process,
Contemplative prayer begins with “centering prayer,” a meditative practice where the practitioner focuses on a word and repeats that word over and over for the duration of the exercise. The purpose is to clear one’s mind of outside concerns so that God’s voice may be more easily heard. After the centering prayer, the practitioner is to sit still, listen for direct guidance from God, and feel His presence. In Occult writing, and in Contemplative-meditative prayer (which I mentioned is a precursor for deepening occult activities), the point is to DISengage from the process, free the mind, and let someone or something else take over.
Dunn wrote,
“In this essay, automatic writing refers to the ability to write or dictate text in a relatively rapid, seemingly effortless and fluent manner with no sense of control over the content. A consideration of this phenomenon is important for Mormons since a number of authors have asserted that this was the method through which Joseph Smith produced the Book of Mormon. Such a claim, if correct, can have important implications for the way Latter-day Saints approach their scriptures." ... It is clear that Smith's translation experience fits comfortably within the larger world of scrying, channeling, and automatic writing.”"Scriptures". You see that yet again, as Hildegarde's writing was taken as theological treatises, Smith's are also taken for theological treatises, going so far as to call them 'scriptures'. Just because the heathen senses an other-worldly presence, it does not mean it is a holy presence. The holy presence for the Christian is the Spirit dwelling inside us, a presence we usually cannot feel but know by faith is there. For unsaved people any presence they feel will be an evil, demonic presence.
There is a whole slew of writers throughout the 1900s who channeled their books. You would be surprised at how many. The famous writer, Richard Bach who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull got his book from channeling an entity through the practice of automatic writing. Bach was influenced by by occultist Jane Roberts,
In late 1963, Roberts and Butts, living in the Elmira, New York area, experimented with a Ouija board as part of Roberts' research for a book on extra-sensory perception. According to Roberts and Butts, on December 2, 1963 they began to receive coherent messages from a male personality who eventually identified himself as Seth. Soon after, Roberts reported that she was hearing the messages in her head. [inner voice] She began to dictate the messages instead of using the Ouija board, and she eventually abandoned the board. Roberts described the process of writing the Seth books as entering a trance state. She said Seth[the entity] would assume control of her body and speak through her, while her husband wrote down the words she spoke. They referred to such episodes as "readings" or "sessions". Ten volumes of "Seth books" emerged. That's the way it goes. One person gets a piece of writing from the spirits on the other side, and a friend says, 'hey, that's cool, I want to do that too', and the first occultist becomes a mentor to the second. Yeats was a student who became a mentor/teacher in His occult club known as Golden Dawn. Roberts taught Bach. In a circle of friends, a little leaven spoils the whole lump. Occult practices don't stay politely to one side, but soon permeate the entire sphere of friends, and then soon goes looking for other spheres to pollute.
He wrote,
"I worked on, thinking of nothing in particular. Suddenly a strange experience came to me. There seemed to be a faint electrical crackling in the clear air about me. There was positively nobody else in the garden, but someone or something spoke to me: a voice that was audible and yet (paradoxically enough) quite soundless. That seems the only way to express what I shall always believe was a supernatural experience. I felt a message impinge on my brain from the air. It alighted softly like the caress of a leaf or the touch of a gentle zephyr. It was accompanied by a sense of exaltation both pleasurable and unforgivable.Russell's experience sparked the interest of two ladies in the 1930s, who were curious to try Russell's recommended method of "Quiet Time". (AKA Automatic writing). Russell had recommended sitting down with pencil and paper, letting the mind go blank, cleared of thought, and then allowing any entity to impinge a message to it and through the listener writes it down.
“I began reading God Calling, a devotional book written by two anonymous “listeners.” These women practiced waiting quietly in God’s Presence, pencils and paper in hand, recording the messages they received from Him. The messages are written in first person, with “I” designating God…this little paperback became a treasure to me. It dovetailed remarkably well with my longing to live in Jesus’ Presence. (Sarah Young)Sarah Young wrote the pseudo-Christian book Jesus Calling in exactly the same way as all the other automatic writers. Young describes her process:
"One night I found myself leaving the warmth of our cozy chalet to walk alone in the snowy mountains. I went into a deeply wooded area, feeling vulnerable and awed by cold, moonlit beauty. ... Suddenly I felt as if a warm mist enveloped me. I became aware of a lovely Presence, ...When I prayed for myself, I was suddenly enveloped in brilliant light and profound peace. Yearning to hear the Lord’s voice isn’t complicated. But it does require some discipline to find a quiet place and to allow some time just listening. Perhaps the hardest part is clearing your mind. With all the noise of life regularly cascading through your mind, it can be hard to hear God’s voice."A Course In Miracles is another pseudo-Christian book gotten through automatic writing. Author Dr. Schucman said,
"That was my introduction to the Voice. It made no sound, but seemed to be giving me a kind of rapid, inner dictation which I took down in a shorthand notebook". And, "I call it a voice, but “a voice” has sounds...or sounds as though it has something to do with hearing. And I didn’t hear anything. I think it’s the sort of hearing that you can’t really describe." (A Course in Miracles, Schucman)In 2008, William P. Young wrote a story for his kids about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit that his wife encouraged him to publish. It became the runaway bestseller The Shack. Christian apologist Norman Geisler wrote of The Shack's origins by quoting from The Shack's afterword,
"In the final section of the book titled “The Story behind THE SHACK,” he reveals that the motivation for this story comes from his own struggle to answer many of the difficult questions of life. He claims that his seminary training just did not provide answers to many of his pressing questions. Then one day in 2005, he felt God whisper in his ear that this year was going to be his year of Jubilee and restoration. Out of that experience he felt lead to write The Shack. According to Young, much of the book was formed around personal conversations he had with God, family, and friends (258-259)." Toward the end of writing the book, Mr Young had said that he spent one weekend writing four chapters, and one chapter, came out whole and he never edited it."
Neale Donald Walsch wrote a trilogy called Conversations with God. In this interview with Walsch, we learn that it is also is a book born from hell through automatic writing.
Interviewer: Since your original "Conversations With God," has your communication with God continued, and if so, is your experience akin to channeling or automatic writing?
Neale: Yes, although sporadically, the communications do continue. The process is quite simple. First, it must be absolutely quiet because I can't do this work with anything or anyone distracting me, even in the slightest way. So generally, these communications occur at 4:00 in the morning, when there is no sound of any kind. It's not channeling or automatic writing, but more like taking dictation. [automatic writing IS dictation & vice-versa]. What it feels like is someone is whispering into my right ear. There is a voice inside my head, a voiceless voice saying things to me, and I write down what's being said, literally one sentence at a time. It's as if I were listening to a voice that doesn't have a voice.
Neale: The feeling is always a physical warmth, and a kind of joy that makes me want to cry. I find myself often moved to tears by what is being written in front of me. Sometimes, I just sit on the couch and write the words down and cry because the beauty of the thoughts and how exquisitely they are being expressed. It's 5:00 in the morning, and there's no one around, mind you. I feel like I'm being embraced in the kindest, gentlest way one could even hope to imagine.
Interviewer: What are some of the ways each of us can begin to strengthen our personal communication and rapport with God?
Neale: One way is to sit and be absolutely still and quiet, and go to a wonderful secret place. I don't necessarily mean sit in meditation, but be somewhere absolutely quiet.
![]() |
| Screen shot from Moore video where Moore describes her vision of a coming outpouring, a vision she says God gave directly to her. In my opinion, Moore does not look too stable there. |
Whisked her? Like He did to Philip? "And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing." (Acts 8:39). Moore continues,
"Oddly, the concept for this book came complete, God delivering the title to me in full. My Bible was open to these verses for the first time in a long while, and the instruction from the Lord came so unmistakably that I dated it in the margin: April 19, 2000. My pen still didn’t touch the paper until almost exactly a year later when I knew His Spirit was saying to me, ‘Now.’ I headed to the mountains, and within a few weeks it was done.”Not so odd, as we have learned. Just satanic.

The Dangers of the International House of Prayer (IHOP)
The International House of Prayer (IHOP) was started on May 7, 1999 by Mike Bickle in Kansas City. [1] It is well known for its 24/7 worship and prayer ministry. Now it has grown substantially to include international ties, its very own seminary, and undergraduate program. People from around the globe are flocking to IHOP, but do they actually know what they are getting into?
Cultic Origins and Goals
It is clear that almost all of the participants in IHOP do not have an understanding of what they are getting into. Many of the participants, including many genuine Christians who are being deceived, believe it is a place to go pray and worship, while not knowing what the theological distinctives are that make IHOP unique. The true origin started in 1982 after a man named Augustine approached Mike Bickle and said an audible voice told him to prophesy to his congregation. Later that year, Mike Bickle claimed to hear an audible voice speaking to him while on a trip in Cairo, Egypt. The voice told him, “I am inviting you to raise up a work that will touch the ends of the earth. I have invited many people to do this thing and many people have said yes, but very few have done my will.” [2]This is parallel to how many other cults of Christianity are born. They follow the basic formula:
(Blank 1) said God told him/her a message, and he/she and starts the (Blank 2) church.
For Example:
- Joseph Smith said God told him a message, and he started the Mormon church.
- Ellen G. White said God told her a message, and she started the Seventh Day Adventist church.
- Mary Eddy Baker said God told her a message, and she started the Christian Scientist church.
- Sun Myung Moon said God told him a message, and he started the Unification church.
- Witness Lee/Watchman Nee said God told him a message, and he started the Local Church.
- Mike Bickle said God told him a message, and he started the International House of Prayer.
We're
not absent for the great tribulation, now listen carefully, the church
causes the great tribulation. What I mean by that – it's the church,
it's the praying church under Jesus' leadership that's loosing the
judgment in the great tribulation in the way that Moses stretched forth
his rod and prayed and loosed the judgments upon Pharaoh. The church in
the tribulation is in the position that Moses was before Pharaoh but it
won't be a Pharaoh and Egypt, it'll be the great end time Pharaoh called
the antichrist and the book of Revelation is a book about the judgments
of God on the antichrist loosed by the praying church. [9]
Right
now the prayer movement is growing fast….really fast! But when I say
it's growing fast instead of one percent of the Body of Christ taking
hold of it, maybe 10 percent. It's….you know it's like 10 times bigger
than it was a generation ago, but beloved as fast as the prayer movement
is growing, where people are getting hold of it, still for 90 percent
of the Body of Christ it's not even on their mind. Jesus is not coming
until the Body of Christ globally is crying out "Come Lord Jesus, Come
Lord Jesus, Come Lord Jesus" and they don't just say "come and forgive
me" they are crying out in the understanding of who they are as the one
that is cherished by Jesus in the bridal identity. [9]
The Power of Emotionalism, Mysticism, and Gnosticism
The major draw of IHOP is experience. People often come to me citing their experience and go back again and again to experience "God" and the "Spirit" - no different than an emotional high. This is analogous to mysticism, which is defined as “the pursuit of deeper or higher subjective religious experience,” and “that spiritual reality is perceived apart from the human intellect and natural senses.” [13] They practice what is known as centering or contemplative prayer. This is defined as “the practice of relaxing, emptying the mind, and letting one's self find the presence of God within.” [10] In fact, they had an article titled “Contemplative Prayer” on their website, but after much negative press they have taken it down. [13] However, the contents of the article have been preserved by a former IHOP staff member’s website and is available for all to see here: (http://gospelmasquerade.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/contemplative-prayer-continued/)One of the highest criticisms would be IHOP’s insidious Gnosticism. Gnosticism is derived from the greek word gnosis, meaning “knowledge.” The hallmark of Gnosticism is the idea of having “hidden knowledge” of the spiritual realm that is unavailable to others. This knowledge comes via prophecies, visions, and dreams that God specifically gives to a certain privileged group of people - in this case IHOP. In fact, IHOP has their own “prophecy rooms” where one can receive “prophecies,” and they used to have a practice of mailing out recorded tapes, of which I was asked by my friend’s mother to translate!
This is something the Apostle Paul discusses in Colossians 2:18. “Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind” (NASB) [11].
Great experiences with our Lord are a gift from God, but one needs to exercise caution concerning the authority he/she gives personal experiences. More often than not, the people who go to IHOP do not have a strong theological foundation and so they rely on their experiences to dictate what the Bible says and not the other way around. Here are some words (from Dr. John MacArthur's sermon "Are Experiences a Valid Source of Truth?) of wisdom regarding experiences:
There
is the ploy they use, "Well, we would expect you to be against it since
you haven't had the experience." That is Gnosticism. That is believing
that you have been elevated to a higher level of comprehension which the
uninitiated have no understanding. Rodman Williams, who has written a
number of books and who was once the president of a local Charismatic
school, and I quote said, "Any vital information concerning the Gifts of
the Spirit, the Pneumatic Charismata, predisposes a participation in
them. Without such a participation, whatever is said about the Gifts may
only result in confusion and error." If you haven't had it, you have no
right to talk about it. One pastor said to me, "You talk exactly like
one who never had the experience. You are speaking out of ignorance." I
wonder if they feel that way talking about Heaven, Hell, murder,
adultery, homosexuality, and numerous other subjects. Do we have to have
that experience too? [5]
The IHOP Dilemma
When someone comes to you and say that God gave him a clear audible and/or visual revelation (dream, vision, prophecy, etc.), you are now in what I will call the IHOP Dilemma.Due to the seriousness of disobeying genuine prophecy and the heinousness of proclaiming a false one, you are in an IHOP Dilemma when you are now forced to choose:
1) If this person is actually speaking truth from God. If so, we are bound to listen or face incurring the steep penalty of disobeying God's very own commands via His prophet.
or
2) Whether or not a person is proclaiming falsehood in God's name and thus incurring the steep penalty of false prophesying and being a false prophet.
Unfortunately, this puts the rest of Christianity in a hard situation, because we now have to make the determination whether IHOP is full of false prophets or true prophets and to treat them as such. We cannot merely remain neutral. How can we be neutral on God's revelation or on such an egregious sin as false prophecy within the church? It is like someone saying the pastor cheated on his wife or that he murdered someone and saying, "Hmm... let me think about that and get back to you later." No, you're now in a tough situation and you now have to make a hard decision!
Unfortunately, many of those in IHOP have no idea what they are doing when they are supposedly "prophesying." As I said before, they do not have a strong Biblical foundation and do not pause to think of the gravity of what they are actually proclaiming. [8]
A Sampling of the Prophecies
Lest you think the prophecies at IHOP are like ones in other mainstream charismatic churches or similar to prophecies noted men like John Piper, Vern Poythress, or Wayne Grudem believe, please read the following quotes other authors have noted:
1. On
disc 7 of The Prophetic History, Bickle describes a visitation to the
throne-room of God as he is told that God will be restoring the apostles
to the church. Let me preface this by saying that before getting to
this point in his message, Bickle described the experience as being on
par with the Apostle Paul’s experience in the Third Heaven in 2 Cor. 12
as well as John’s visions.
They’ve
been told by church leadership that it is up to them to “usher in” the
Second Coming of Jesus. They’ve been encouraged to do away with
discernment concerning mystical experiences. They’ve been told that they
are “forerunners” of Christ in the same way that John the Baptist was.
They’ve been told that the orthodox views of Christianity are weak and
it’s up to them to restore the “true” message of the Gospel, using their
new “powers from God” to start a revival that will win souls for the
Kingdom." [6]
2. They could hear from
God, and speak forth God's words, prophesying of great events soon to
transpire on planet earth. And they could have flipped a coin as to
whether what God allegedly told them would actually come true. Often
they didn't come true. Some of the main prophets and/or leaders in the
movement included Paul Cain, Mike Bickle, Bob Jones, Rick Joyner, John
Paul Jackson, Francis Frangipane, and others...However, he was quoted as
saying that the general level of prophetic revelation in the movement's
"prophets" had an accuracy level of about 65 percent. Some prophets
were as low as 10 percent accurate, he said, with some of the "most
mature" prophets having a rating "approaching 85 percent to 95 percent. "
(Steven F Cannon, "Old Wine in Old Wineskins: A Look at Kansas City
Fellowship," The Quarterly Journal 10, no. 4 (October-December 1990): 8.
[7]
3. Bickle claims that a "voice"
spoke to him in September 1982, directing him to a ministry to touch the
ends of the earth. ( Albert James Dager, Vengeance is Ours. Redmond,
Wash.: Sword Publishers, 1990, pg. 127.) Bickle's account is as
follows: "The Lord simply said, 'I will change the understanding and
expression of Christianity in the earth in one generation.'" (Mike
Bickle, Growing in the Prophetic. Lake Mary, Fla.: Creation House, 1996,
pg. 30) [7]
4. Bickle speaking,
“...but the fact is God showed me that it was truly a healing anointing.
It was a tremendously, ah, dynamic dream for my own personal history
and what I can understand for the life of this church. There’s a healing
anointing He said would be second to no other movement. That’s what He
told me directly, it would be second to no other movement in this whole
generation, the healing anointing that will come upon this people. . .He
(BJ) [Bob Jones] says ‘They took a banner and He (God) put a banner
upon you last night and it spoke of the entire movement.’ Then he told
me the dream I had and he said the Lord says there will be no movement
that will be superior to the healing power that comes forth from this
movement . He goes, ‘There will be nothing in the earth that this thing
will be second to in the generation.’ I said, ‘God, this is
incredible.’” (P.His 2, p. 15 - 17) [3]
5.
“I (Mike Bickle) stood there and I was at the Lord’s left hand, and it
was not a dream--this was as real as life here and like I said, I don’t
know that realm... He (God) was speaking so sternly to me, He said, ‘If
you are impatient...you will cause great turmoil and much trouble for
many people.’ I was ashamed and I was broken with sorrow that He said
that so harshly to me. And then what happened is that I start falling so
rapidly--I mean like--S-H-O-O-O-M, it takes about five or six seconds,
and fall down to my bed, right through the ceiling--I mean it was right
through the walls and things--S-H-O-O-O-M, I hit my bed and it wasn’t
like an instant I was there--I had knowledge of travel for five or six
seconds. Have you had that?”
BJ: “Yes.”
MB:
“And I was falling so rapidly and I was going like ‘A-H-H-H-H.’ I was
coming right down through the black sky...And I come right through the
ceiling and I hit my bed and I looked for like a half a second, I goes
S-H-O-O-O-M right back up again, I go. . . right through the ceiling
again! And I understood immediately the impatience was of setting in
leadership premature without permission. He said...‘You cannot put
leadership in that I do not say, because the leadership will divide and
cause much division and many people will suffer great harm and I will
hold you accountable for it. ‘...So what happens is this golden chariot,
it appears--S-W-O-O-O-P-and it comes right there. . . and I under--I
knew intuitively, instantly--it was an apostolic ministry, though it’s
only the invitation. It was not a commission. The Lord was not calling
me an apostle. He said He was thinking, ‘The days to come, if you’re
faithful, you have an opportunity in the grace of God to fill an
apostolic calling if you’re faithful to the full measure.’
And I set in
the chariot and I went shooting right into a blue sky and I knew as I
was going up that it was revelation. He said, ‘I’m going to bring you to
divine revelation in the days to come.’...There would be an end-time
measure of apostolic ministry that would come out of the fruit of the
intercession...so like it’s a number of years down the road. But the
Lord said that I’m going to bring forth apostles—champions--if the
people will live in intercession and ask for them to come...And so that
was no small visitation in terms of the promise of what God said to this
movement...And the Lord says, ‘Now you have the word in yourself now
and you will not go running after other movements and other places
because I have spoken to you face-to-face.
‘...But I know that at that
time I owned,..from the voice of God--face-to-face (but I never saw His
face), but I mean standing next to Him, I owned the word myself and it
was not just a matter of me believing Him. It was amazing how the
revelation turned after that time.” (F88, p. 81 - 84) [3]
The Denigration of the Bible and Sola Scriptura
One of the biggest issues of this movement is their denial of one of the bedrock doctrines of the Reformation and evangelical Christianity: Sola Scriptura, or Scripture Alone. Sola Scriptura is the notion that the Bible is the revealed will of God and all that is necessary for faith (all teachings are contained within the Bible) and practice (the things we need to govern our church and everyday life). For an excellent explanation of this by Dr. Greg Bahnsen go here: (http://www.christiantruth.com/articles/bahnsen.html). Basically, God does not need to give us anymore revelation, and this was first used in the Reformation against the Roman Catholic church that said we needed their traditions and clergy, but now it is under attack by IHOP. They might say they believe in it, but their actions outright deny it.When people from IHOP make decisions, they do not use the Bible as the only revealed revelation from God because they supposedly still get direct revelations from Him. They deny this very doctrine that defines the protestant and evangelical faith. Sadly, this is rampant at IHOP.
Indexed as a Cult by Multiple Ministries
There are certainly many different theological distinctives in the Christian church, and many of us do differ. However, we do not go so far as to label each other cults or heretics. On the other hand, IHOP has been labeled dangerous, cultic, false, and heretical by many ministries, former members, apologetic groups, and Godly men. In fact, other charismatic Christians have stood up to oppose them as well. A small listing of these groups include:- The Apologetics Index
- Apologetics Resource Center
- Critical Issues Commentary
- Pastor Ernie Gruen (a Charismatic preacher) who was written a manuscript entitled “Documentation of the Aberrant Practices and Teachings of Kansas City Fellowship (Grace Ministries).” Kansas City Fellowship (Grace Ministries) is Mike Bickles former ministry prior to founding IHOP.
- Pastor Bill Randles (a Pentecostal preacher) has written a book titled “Weighed and Found Wanting.”
- The Gospel Masquerade is a website created by a former staff member of IHOP.
Conclusion
A quick review of the main offenses include:- Cultic origin, worship style, and goals
- Emotionalism
- Mysticism
- Gnosticism
- The IHOP dilemma
- False Prophecies
- Effective Denial of Sola Scriptura
- Opposition by multiple Godly Christian Groups
