Q. I was reading “Why Is The Church Special,” on how the remainder of the scarlet ribbon would turn white when the goat was released. I thought I had read one time that after the crucifixion of the Messiah, this phenomenon no longer took place. Can you verify or debunk this?
A. In his book, “The Fall Feasts Of Israel” Dr. Mitch Glaser wrote that according to the Talmud (Yoma 39 a,b) there were four major signs that began to occur about 40 years before the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. The scarlet ribbon no longer turned white on Yom Kippur, the lot for the Lord’s goat never came up in the High Priests right hand like it always had before, the westernmost light on the Temple Menorah would not burn, and the Temple doors would periodically open by themselves. These were viewed by Jewish officials as warnings of the Temple’s coming destruction.
