[Spoken voice with emotion]
Have you ever heard of Mephiboshet?
His
name translates to "dispeller of shame," and his life is widely studied
for unmerited grace. Despite his fears, Mephibosheth received
undeserved grace and protection from David, a touching biblical example
of covenant loyalty and unmerited favor.
He was the crippled son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul. When he was five years old, both his father and grandfather were killed in battle against the Philistines. While fleeing in a panic, his nurse dropped him, resulting in permanent disability in both of his feet. He grew up hidden away in a remote, impoverished place called Lo-debar until David found him many years later.
[Verse 1. Sad, reflective mood to start]
When I look at my trouble and pains
With my human eyes,
The Lord in his mercy reminds me
Of my friend Mephibosheth,
Then, my vision changes
And my Woes turn to WaoWs.
[Chorus.]
I suddenly find myself free
To praise my King Jesus
For his grace, mercy and love for me,
Just like that, the twinkling of an eye,
[Verse 2.]
Who am I to depreciate what we have
When our Servant King Jesus tells us:
""In My Father’s house are many rooms.
If it were not so, would I have told you
That I am going there
to prepare a place for you?"
[Chorus.]
I suddenly find myself free
To praise my King Jesus
For his grace, mercy and love for me,
Just like that, the twinkling of an eye,
"And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back and welcome you into My presence,
So that you also may be where I am.
You know the way to the place where I am going.”…
[Verse 3.]
Do you know Jesus?
Do you know where you are going?
Do you believe he is coming back for you?
Do you have your white robe on?
Have you been invited to the Feast
By the King Jesus himself?
Whom do you serve?
[Verse 4.]
When the words of man cripple
Your life and your soul
Don´t receive them, instead
Turn you eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face..
And listen instead to the Word of God
Whispering in your wounded heart:
[Verse 5.]
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why the unease within me?
Put your hope in God,
For I will yet praise Him,
My Savior and my God.
[Chorus.]
I suddenly find myself free
To praise my King Jesus
For his grace, mercy and love for me,
Just like that, the twinkling of an eye,
[Verse 6.]
You turned my mourning into dancing;
You peeled off my sackcloth
And clothed me with joy,
That my heart may sing your praises
and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks forever.
[Final chorus.]
I suddenly find myself free
To praise my King Jesus
For his grace, mercy and love for me,
Just like that, the twinkling of an eye.
[Voice spoken with gratitude]
Following
his deep, historic covenant he made with Jonathan, King David searched
for any remaining heirs of Saul. He showed great grace to Mephibosheth,
fully restoring Saul's estate and welcoming him as family to continually
eat at the king's own table.
